Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at the right bank of the Xiaoheli River, Handaqi Township, Heihe City, Heilongjiang. It was named by Zhang Rihai et al. in 1977, and formally cited in Regional Geology of Heilongjiang Province in 1989.


Lithology and Thickness

Sandstone. A suite of continental clastic rock formation. Lower part consists of conglomerate, tuffaceous sandstone, slate and carbonaceous-tuffaceous sandstone. Upper part, of pebbled grit, tuffaceous medium- to fine-grained sandstones and siltstone. Thickness is 265.8 m at the type section and 94 m thick at the right bank of the Chaergela River

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Xiaohelihe Fm (BE CAREFUL, because "Xiaohelihe Gr" in Permian suite was given a vague Carboniferous to Middle Permian possible age interval, due to uncertain age constraints).

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Chaergelahe Fm

Regional extent

Distributed along the Xiaoheli and Chaergela rivers of Heihe City

Fossils

Plants Angaroptereidium sp., Cardiopteridium sp., Rhodea sp., Carpolithus sp., Noeggerathiopsis sp., etc. are in both Lower and Upper units.
